This post is a part of an 8-day series.

“WELCOME TO MOTHERHOOD,” The Universe screamed at me as I jolted out of my sleep at 4am.

“I can’t believe I fell asleep,” I thought. “Is she alive? Is she breathing? Is she liking it here??” These questions were running through my mind during the middle of our first night together. I did my best to hold open my tired eyes for as long as I could when I first went to bed, just in case she needed her mom for anything. As it turns out, she’s a really spectacular sleeper and almost made it through the entire night- where are all my proud mommas at?

Today, we had our first outing to the mall where I conveniently bought some black clothes so I can match her pretty golden retriever/lab mix coat, then headed back to camp where she had to receive her final round of dental work and get some blood drawn. This meant sedation. During the time she was gone, I started feeling a little sad and empty, you know, the way mothers feel when they leave their newborns for the first time. Although, mine isn’t technically a newborn and I’m pretty sure she’s part gorilla. Everyone was hanging out and practicing with their dogs, so I decided to kill some time by going outside in search of some Georgia clay. An hour or so later, she returned to me and has basically been snoozing ever since.

Okay, so are y’all (I’m practicing here!) ready to learn her name? Actually instead of just going out and saying it, let me give you some background information and clues. After all, it’s fun to play games and I want to see how many of you will catch on.

For those of you who don’t know, my birthday is next month, and as I was gearing up for this trip, I thought what better birthday wish than to spend seven days on a farm in the south while spending every free moment with dogs. Then, to top it all off, I get to meet a new best friend and start a new life of companionship and service together. I could not have asked for a better wish. Actually, let me rewrite that phrase for you. I could not have asked for a better Wish. Did you catch that? See what I’m doing here? Because, when you capitalize something, you therefore declare that word a proper noun. So… 😉

Thanks for checking in! Goodnight, Georgia.
